STG aids in projects for Ministry of Finance and World Bank

New Delhi September 15, 2001: STG, the leading global IT Services Company, announced bagging two prestigious orders totalling worth around Rs.36 lakhs, which will aid the Ministry of Finance and World Bank. The orders include developing a Financial Management System for World Bank's Third Technical Education Project (TechEd) and shall help in better planning and utilization of the resources and assist monitoring agencies in effective supervision. Other project includes developing Government Accounting Information System (GAINS) to help Controller General of Accounts, a division of Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India which will help them in better planning and budgetary control of Government finances.
Speaking about the orders Mr. Sanjeev Prasad, President Software Division, STG said, "Developing projects like these is a very challenging task especially when it relates to integrating practices, applications and organizations together and that too on such a large scale. It requires proper expertise, strong project management and application of cutting edge technologies and we hope to accomplish the projects efficiently with right skill set of all these."
The first project, Government Accounting Information System (GAINS) is being developed for Controller General of Accounts, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India. CGA is the principal Accounts Adviser to the Government of India and is responsible for establishing and maintaining a technically sound management accounting system. The system application works like a browser interface and also facilitates online access of reports through the web. It will also facilitate e-governance as the reports generated through the system can be directly uploaded on the CGA Website for public viewing. The total worth of the order is Rs. 17 lakhs.
The second project Financial Management System (FMS) is part of the World Bank aided US$ 80 million Third Technician Education (TechEd) Project. TechEd will assist the industrially and economically underdeveloped and geographically remote states of the northeastern region, Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory (UT) of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The project aims at expanding capacity and improving the quality and efficiency of technical education to meet the specific economic needs of each state.
The FMS project is being implemented through Polytechnic Project implementation Units (PPIUs), setup in each of the participating states and is being monitored at the state and national levels through State Project Implementation Units (SPIUs) and National Project Implementation Unit (NPIU) respectively. The primary objective of FMS is to help PPIUs in better planning and utilization of the resources and also to assist various monitoring agencies viz. SPIUs, NPIU, World Bank and the Ministry of Human Resource Development in effective supervision of the project through timely and accurate information. Besides it also aims at streamline the accounting procedures of the participating units. It would help in better project monitoring, faster decision-making, loan disbursement and reimbursement. The total worth of the order is Rs. 18.69 lakhs.
